PATRIA NOSTRA
They come from all other the world : Nepal, England, USA, Panama, Brazil, Bielorussia, Slovakia, France, Japan … they are between 18 and 25 years old, they just learned how to speak french and they will fight together under the same French national Flag. After a 4 month recruitment process in Aubagne, with sport, basic military training and french lessons, the young French Foreign Legion volunteers have a final infantry formation including fire training, close combat and technical curses.
These pictures illustrates one month with 25 young Foreign legionnaires in the base of Nimes, during their infantry curses.
French Foreign legion is a worldwide myst. How foreigners, with only some month of training are able to become a compact mass of fighters operating as a single man ? How personal identity become a group making this new fighters as brothers ? I tried to illustrate the invisible theme not only showing how military tries to hide in their environment being invisible to their enemy or how they become a bunch of « Jarhead » with a very hard training, but how a unique system recruiting foreigners is capable to succeed in the transformation of individual guys in one entity : The legionnaire.
